LAUSANNE, Switzerland — The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced Wednesday that "Bureaucratic Compliance" has been elevated to an official medal sport for the 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles, transforming decades of administrative gridlock into a high-stakes athletic discipline.
The event, formally designated as the Administrative Decathlon, will require competitors to navigate a grueling gauntlet of real-time visa acquisitions, multi-jurisdictional tax declarations, and triple-redundant medical waivers on a live, arena-style stage.
According to the newly published IOC rulebook, competitors will sit at standardized, un-ergonomic desks in the center of the stadium. Points are awarded for speed, font consistency, and the precise application of digital signatures under simulated low-bandwidth internet conditions. Point deductions will be issued for "improper margin alignment," "failure to initial page 14," and "excessive PDF file size."
"For years, the true test of an Olympian has occurred long before they ever reach the track," said Thomas Wellen, the IOC’s newly appointed Director of Competitive Administration. "To secure an international travel visa, clear a biological passport queue, and log daily whereabouts in three different time zones requires the mental stamina of an ultra-marathoner. It is time we recognize the ballpoint pen as an elite sporting implement."
National federations are already restructuring their training programs to identify administrative talent.
"We are transitioning several of our injured decathletes into the compliance pipeline," said Sarah Jenkins, high-performance director for USA Compliance. "The physical toll of sitting for nine hours trying to upload a passport scan that must be exactly 1.9 megabytes is comparable to a heavy squat session. The grip strength required for rapid stapling is immense."
The IOC confirmed that while gold, silver, and bronze medals will be awarded, final podium placement remains tentative until the completion of a mandatory 90-day post-event appeals process, which requires the physical filing of Form 104-B in quadruplicate.
